Ngāpuhi-led economic leadership symposium

TE AURERE
KURA

A capability, evidence and coordination platform bringing together hapū, Ngāpuhi entities, leaders, partners and funders for informed participation and collective kōrero.

Waitangi 13–15 October 2026

Purpose

Te Aurere Kura aims to strengthen the capability, confidence and economic understanding of Ngāpuhi so that hapū are better equipped to make informed decisions about their own futures. The symposium is about growing knowledge, leadership and relationships.

The meaning behind the name

Te Aurere Kura, from Te Karakia o Nukutawhiti, refers to the sacred current that carries the waka forward. It reflects the rising momentum of Ngāpuhi, drawing together people, knowledge, resources and ambition to advance a shared vision for economic strength, collective wellbeing and intergenerational prosperity.

Ngāpuhi-led

Hapū first

This kaupapa is grounded in whakapapa and tikanga. Ngāpuhi hear the evidence first, and hapū remain the decision-makers.

Evidence-based

Clarity and confidence

Te Ōhanga Whakapapa o Ngāpuhi provides a shared evidence base and separates fact, estimate, context and information gaps.

Future-focused

Connection

The symposium connects whenua, tangata and rawa: governance and assets, leadership and capability, capital and investment readiness.

Who it is for

The symposium is intended to support informed participation across the wider Ngāpuhi ecosystem while protecting the integrity and neutrality of the kaupapa.
